agreed, there’s so much that came before jaco, but there really wasn’t melodic bass as jaco played it before him. ron carter’s solo on take the a train is and always will be extraordinary, but he faded back into rhythm after the solo. jaco was different, i suppose, although i agree with you that many people don’t pay enough attention to the amazing music made before fusion….. oh well, more for us xD
come back when you can play as well as wayne shorter
coltrane played out of rune as hell on many recordings; hes still one of the best.

“bass as a melodic lead did not exist before Jaco”
…of course the world, jazz, jazz rock, be-bop, brilliant upright bass players and soloists all came after Jaco…
up-your-own-arse-muso…
John Entwhistle was a fantastic bass player.! definetely! You can’t say anything bad about him
No - I was just referring to that style of playing where the bass is not just harmonic underpinning but is a prominent melodic feature in the tune, with the bass played quite high up its range and with a fair amount of sustain.
He really need to, how I say “Play with some Kahunas” He’s okay at times, but others… Uggghhh…
You fucking deaf retard.
Is ‘bass as a melodic lead’ a quote from Jaco?
John Entwistle was voted by other professional bass players as the, “BASSIST OF THE MILLENIUM”, enough said.
im pretty sure zawinul created this song, and manhattan transfer covered it.
manhattan transfer gives thanks to weather report on album notes.
what an awesome song
Jaco Pastorius redefined what bass guitar could sound like - just as Hendrix did with guitar before him. That whole ‘bass as a melodic lead’ did not exist before Jaco brought it to our ears. A short and brilliant life and a tragic end.
dont b so harsh on people ignorance cannot be avoided sometimes
just look at the hands technique and thats it ! LOL
